This diverse exhibition features over 100 limited edition prints, skillfully hand-crafted by artists working from three separate print studios in Australia and Ireland. Artists from Firestation Print Studio, Melbourne; PressNorth Printmakers, Townsville; and Cork Printmakers, Ireland created this fantastic array of original images over two consecutive print exchange projects in 2013 and 2014. Using various printmaking techniques, the only stipulation was the works must conform to the postcard dimensions of 10 x 15cm. The prints were then sent between the studios for exhibition in each location, with their latest outing soon to appear at The Framing Salon, London.
These petite prints belie their modest size in terms of the technical skill, imaginative imagery and conceptual intrigue they convey. Common to many is a creative exploration of local surroundings, as artists meditate on the very different natural and built environments of Townsville and Melbourne in Australia, and Cork in Ireland. In doing so they evoke less tangible qualities of place.
This exhibition displays a wide range of aesthetic and technical approaches, with works created by over 80 artists using various printmaking mediums including etching, linocut, collagraphy, monotype, wood engraving, and more. Crossing borders and oceans, this international collaboration reflects the richness of contemporary printmaking practice today.
